Feeding the Helpless
ABOUT THE Community Food Lifeline (Pandemic Response)
In Praise of Jesus Incorporated believes food is a right; for all people. To put this belief into action and as a response to the massive unemployment as a result of the pandemic lock-down in Los Angeles County since March 2020, we organized a weekly food distribution called "Community Food Lifeline" and distributed bread, cakes, pies, cookies and produce to the homeless and the marginalized.
We started with Ascencia Access Center & Housing Services as a distribution point. Ascencia’s mission is to lift people out of homelessness, one person, one family at a time. Ascencia is located in Glendale CA. Ascencia has provided housing and services to homeless individuals and families since 2006. Right now, their facilities are housing up to 60 individuals.
Also we are distributing food directly to the Echo Park Lake homeless encampment in partnership with the Sound of Change Ministries under Pastor Darryl Udell. According to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) O'Farrell's Council District 13, which includes Echo Park, portions of Hollywood and Silver Lake, had more than 2,400 unsheltered homeless people in 2019.
The Echo Lake homeless encampment is part of a homeless tent community which had grown in number in 2020. They set up their tents surrounding the lake. And as a spill-out from this encampment, about a hundred homeless individuals have moved to Alvarado Street under the 101 Freeway.
The remaining food donations are allocated between the Living Hope Christian Fellowship and the Christ's Church at Griffith Park under Pastors Robert Pada and Genevevo Lubaton, respectively. From these volunteer churches, the food items are delivered or picked up by affected and marginalized families.
If you are in need of food or you know someone who is, please call our Emergency Food Helpline 213-478-2288.
