Feeding the Poor
ABOUT THE Community Food Aid (Pandemic Response)
In Praise of Jesus Community Service Ministry believes food is a right; for all people. To put this belief into action we organized a weekly food distribution called "Community Food Aid".
As a response to the massive unemployment as a result of the pandemic lock-down in Los Angeles County since March 2020, we took the initiative to distribute bread, cakes, pies, cookies and produce.
Starting last August, we decided to include Ascencia Access Center & Housing Services as a distribution point. Ascencia’s mission is to lift people out of homelessness, one person, one family at a time. Ascencia is located in Glendale CA. Ascencia has provided housing and services to homeless individuals and families since 2006. Right now, their facilities are capable of housing up to 60 individuals.
From these distribution points, the food items are delivered or picked up by affected families and homeless clients in the case of Ascencia.
Also we have started distributing food directly to the Echo Park homeless encampment under the 101 Freeway at Alvarado St. There are about 110 recorded homeless and disenfranchised individuals living there at any given time based on the database of Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA).
The Echo Lake homeless encampment is part of a homeless tent community which had grown in number to about 2,000 people. They set up their tents surrounding the lake. The encampment under the 101 Freeway at Alvarado St. is just a spill-off. Since they are far from the rest of the community, they lack resources and support.
